Scholarship Awards 2007

The Scholarship Fund is a division of Alpha Phi Delta Foundation Inc. a 501(c)(3) charitable corporation. Scholarship funds are managed and maintained separately from the general funds of the foundation. In order to support an annual scholarship a fund must have a balance of at least $10,000.

The Scholarship trustees are Richard Angelica, Dr. Santo Barbarino, Ronald Sme, Anthony Carfang, (Development Director), Dr. Jerome Cashman, Paul Fabrizio, Charles Fiore, Esq. (Chairman), Richard Primiano, C.P.A. (Treasurer), John Hadgkiss, and Anthony Thomas.

The following 2007 Awards were announced at the annual convention in August.

Alpha Phi Delta Award ($2,400)  -  Established by the Scholarship Trustees in honor of all of the members of Alpha Phi Delta who have donated so generously to the scholarship fund.

Krista Going

3.82 Grade Point Average at The College of New Jersey. She is an Elementary Education major. Among her many extra curricula activities Krista coaches recreational track and works tutoring inner city youth in Trenton New Jersey. Krista is a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Educational Honor Society. Her application was enthusiastically sponsored by her Grandfather Frank Leanza a member of Theta Beta Chapter initiated in 1945.


Anthony Carfang Award ($1,800)  -  Established by 36th National President Anthony Carfang. Tony is the Director of Development for the Scholarship Fund.

Matthew Gornick

3.82 Grade Point Average at University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. Matthew is an alumnus of Psi Chapter. He was graduated from Duquesne Cum Laude in 2004. He feels that serving as Chairman of the 2004 Valentine Ball in honor of Dr Michael Cahill was his most important undergraduate activity. He hopes to become an orthodontist. Former district governor Doug Sundo says that Matthew'd5s undergraduate service was an inspiration to all brothers.


The Ernest Coletti Award ($1,800)  -  Established by the Mohawk Valley Alumni Club in honor of long time Utica District Governor Ernest Coletti. Brother Coletti passed away in 2003 and made an additional gift in his will of $10,000 to the Scholarship Fund.

Marissa Mazzei

3.53 Grade Point Average at The College of Saint Rose where she is a Music Education major. Marissa is one of four children. She has played the trumpet for the Empire State Youth Wind Orchestra along with the Brass Choir, Jazz Ensemble and Brass Quartet of her school. Marissa plans on obtaining a masters in education and liturgical music and ultimately a Ph.D. in conducting. Her application was sponsored by her father, Beta Chi brother, Vincent Mazzei.


Stanley Raffa Award ($1,800)  -  Established by 30th National President Stanley Raffa. Stanley held virtually every top position in the Alpha Phi Delta world including National President, Vice President, Secretary, Kleos Editor and Scholarship Chairman. Stan was the third Scholarship Chairman.

Ryan Carlisle

3.78 Grade Point Average at Gannon University where he is a member of Beta Rho Chapter. Ryan is in a six year program leading to a doctorate in Physical Therapy. He served as Chapter President and Treasurer. Under his leadership the chapter doubled in size in one semester. Ryan was selected for the Emerging Leader and Most Valuable New Member awards by his school. He maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA while serving as chapter president.


Pittsburgh Alumni Club Award ($1,500)  -  The award of the Pittsburgh Alumni Club

Dennis DiBari

3.94 Grade Point Average at Marist College where he serves as President of Delta Theta Chapter. Dennis is an Economics and Political Science major and plans to attend law school after graduation.


Long Island Alumni Club John Pasta Award ($1,500)  -  Established by the Long Island Alumni Club in honor of 7th Grand Consul John Pasta who led the fraternity from 1924 through 1926. He was a member of Eta Chapter and a graduate of The Columbia University School of Law.

Drew Tomafsky

3.70 Grade Point Average at Seton Hall University where he is a member of Delta Xi Chapter. Drew graduated Magna Cum Laude as an Accounting major. He served as chapter Rush Chairman and Treasurer. Drew participated in the Relay for Life with cancer survivors. He will be attending Seton Hall University for his Master'd5s Degree in Accounting.


Louis J. Mauriello Award ($600)  -  Established by his family in 2006 shortly after his death. Brother Mauriello was inducted into Eta Chapter at The City College of New York in 1934.

Christopher Fornataro

3.67 Grade Point Average at Carnegie Mellon University where he is a Civil and Environmental Engineering major. He is the grandson of Nu Chapter alumnus Augustine Fornataro.


Anthony & Stella Barbieri Award ($600)  -  Established by Brother Anthony & Rosina Barbieri in honor of his late parents.

Francis Romano

4.0 Grade Point Average at Fairfield University where he is an Economics major. The professor who recommended Francis for the scholarship said that he is the ideal student who most professors will encounter only once in their career. Francis is the son of Beta Beta alumnus James Romano.


Brooklyn Alumni Club Award ($600)  -  The award of the Brooklyn Alumni Club

Christine Grimaldi

3.57 Grade Point Average at The George Washington University. Christine is a Journalism major. She is the cousin of Theta Beta alumnus Bryan Grimaldi.


Brother Camillus Casey Award ($600)  -  Established in honor of beloved former National Chaplain Brother Camillus Casey after his death by his many friends and students. Brother joined the fraternity while a faculty member of St. Francis College in Brooklyn as a founding member of Beta Sigma Chapter.

Robert Zeleny Jr.

3.82 Grade Point Average at Ithaca College. Robert is a Television-Radio major. He is the son of Beta Sigma alumnus Bob Zeleny.


Fabrizio Family Award ($600)  -  Established by Paul Fabrizio and family. Paul is a scholarship trustee and has held many positions in Alpha Phi Delta.

Jessica Rudisill

3.50 Grade Point Average at Mercyhurst College. She is a Music major. Jessica is the granddaughter of Psi alumnus Carl Izzo Sr.


Frank Cavallaro Award ($600)  -  Established in honor of 22nd National President and long time expansion chairman Frank Cavallaro

Marie Russo

3.88 Grade Point Average at University of Pittsburgh. Marie is a Chemical Engineering major. She is the daughter of Kleos editor John Russo.


Frank Costanzo Award (I) ($600)  -  One of two awards Established by 23d National President Frank Costanzo

Meredith Calfe

3.25 Grade Point Average at The University of Pittsburgh School of Law. She is one of three granddaughters of Anthony Iole to be awarded Alpha Phi Delta scholarships.

Gina Mazzotta

3.72 Grade Point Average at The University of Pittsburgh where she is a Communication major. She is the daughter of Dominic Mazzotta Jr. and niece of Salvatore Aloe alumni from Psi Chapter.


A. Joseph Creston Award ($600)  -  Established by 34th National President A. Joseph Creston

Marissa Calfe

3.95 Grade Point Average at Dickinson College where she is an English and Italian Studies major. She is one of three granddaughters of Anthony Iole to be awarded Alpha Phi Delta scholarships.


Adam DiVincenzo Award ($600)  -  Established in honor of 21st Grand Consul and long time National Secretary. Adam will always be remembered by his many friends as "Mr. Alpha Phi Delta"

Jacqueline Steiner

3.59 Grade Point Average at Carnegie Mellon University where she is a Decision Science and Economics major. She is one of three granddaughters of Anthony Iole to be awarded Alpha Phi Delta scholarships.


Eta Chapter Memorial Scholarship / Armand DeRosa Award ($600)  -  Established with funds donated by the alumni of Eta Chapter from City College of the City University of New York and a donation from long time Third District Governor Armand DeRosa

Simone Savino


3.60 Grade Point Average at Florida State University where she is an Interior Design major. Her application was enthusiastically endorsed by her grandfather Eta alumnus Eugene Cassiano.


Carmelo and Carmela Giampiccolo Award ($600)  -  Established by brother James S. Giampiccolo in honor of his late parents

Amanda DeConciliis

3.44 Grade Point Average at Duquesne University where she is an Accounting and Finance major. She is the niece of Beta Rho alumnus Ralph Bell.


James S. and Theresa Giampiccolo Award ($600)  -  Established by brother and Mrs. James S. Giampiccolo

Todd Conklin

3.49 Grade Point Average at Seton Hall University where he is a member of Delta Xi Chapter. Todd is a communications major.


New York Alumni Club Award ($600)  -  The award of the New York Alumni Club

Christopher Mancusi

4.00 Grade Point Average at Touro College where he is seeking his master'd5s degree in Education. Chris has served Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity as District Governor and Vice President for Expansion.


Richard Rau Scholarship Award ($600)  -  Established in honor of the late Richard Rau who died while attending college at St. Francis College by his fraternity brothers from Beta Sigma Chapter

Mary Marchant

3.75 Grade Point Average at Rutgers University where she is a Nursing major. Mary is the middle child of a nine child family. She helped raise her younger siblings when her mother passed away. Mary returned to school two years ago after her corporate position was eliminated by downsizing. She is the sister of Gamma Pi brother Marty Panariello.


Alpha Phi Delta Resort Association of New York Award ($600)  -  Established by brothers who had originally collected funds to build a fraternity owned resort facility in the Catskill region of New York where many National Conventions were held. That dream never materialized and a portion of the fund was donated for scholarships in the late 1980s.

Shannon Marsh

3.48 Grade Point Average at Seton Hall University Law School. She is the daughter of Beta Xi alumnus Gary Marsh.


Southern California Alumni Club Award ($600)  -  The award of the Southern California Alumni Club

Jake Belsky

3.38 Grade Point Average at Niagara University. Jake is an Education major and son of Rod Belsky from the Pittsburgh Alumni Club.


Steubenville Alumni Club Award ($600)  -  The award of the Steubenville Alumni Club

Brian Nolte

3.26 Grade Point Average at Duquesne University where he is a secondary Education and History major. He is the son of Beta Theta alumnus Paul Nolte.


Steubenville Ladies Auxiliary Award ($600)  -  The award of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Steubenville Alumni Club

Andrew Norby

3.41 Grade Point Average at The University of Wisconsin where he is majoring in Actuarial Science. Andrew is the cousin of Leon Panella from the Pittsburgh Alumni Club.
